Concord’s New Rental Protections Include:

  • 3% cap on annual rental increases
  • Just “Cause for Eviction” to protect renters from being displaced through no fault of their own.

The new protections will help over 40,000 Concord residents who rent their home use their paycheck to contribute to the local economy, families save up to buy a home, small businesses benefit from increased spending and have cleaner streets, and homeowners to have higher property values.

The ordinance will also help homeowners and mom and pop landlords by curbing competition from Wall Street speculators.

In almost all cases, these policies will NOT affect you as a homeowner.

  1. Rent stabilization does NOT apply to single-family homes. If you want to rent your home, you’re free to set and raise rents without regulation.
  2. The ordinance provides renters with protections against unfair evictions. But if you want to rent your home, you’re free to choose your tenants and evict them if they violate their lease, consistent with state law.
